Resting Place is a suite of 6 drypoint/mezzotints completed in 2002 .
Each of the 6 drypoints is printed in an edition of 10 on
22” X 30” BFK Rives
The skeletal boats depicted in this series are the product
of an ongoing exploration and fascination with imagery involving
solitary boat hulls.
Beginning in Greenland in 1994, primarily in large paintings
on panel but also through the mediums of lithography and
monotype, I have periodically worked with haunting representations
of the exposed ribs of eroding boats.
This small suite of drypoints is a distillation as well
as a continuation of the earlier boat series.
The unique appearance of these drypoints is in part the
result of the fact that the surface of the copper plate
has been abraded to develop a mezzotint like surface. The
image is then developed through the more traditional means
of incising and burnishing.
Resting Place I -VI are available for $800.00 unframed
Resting Place V was awarded an honourable mention
in Ernst & Young‘s 9th Annual Great Canadian Printmaking
Competition.
